Full contact, the phrase behind body to body
Full contact describes oil work carried by a therapist's whole body rather than by her hands alone, which is the shape a body to body hour takes.
It is a description of method, nothing more. In an ordinary oil massage the contact between two people happens through a pair of hands and forearms. In a body to body hour the contact is broader: warmed oil, and pressure carried across a much larger area at once.
Why the phrase earns its place in a cold city
A larger area in contact means warmth travels faster. On an evening when you came in from the wind with your shoulders somewhere near your ears, the bracing lets go early rather than at the halfway mark, and the rest of the hour is spent somewhere other than catching up. That is the whole of the reason this format sits at the centre of this site rather than at the edge of a menu.
What it asks of a room
Very little, which is the second reason. No surface has to be laid out, no gel has to be brought up to temperature, and no bathroom has to behave itself at the end. A towel or two and a warm room are the entire requirement, and both are things you can arrange in a hotel room you checked into three hours ago without having inspected. What the phrase does not settle
It describes how pressure is carried and nothing else. What any individual session includes is decided by the therapist who is in the room, and she says where her own limits sit in the first minutes of the visit, in her own words. Those limits hold from then until she picks her bag back up. Nothing written on this site, here or anywhere else, overrides what she says at the door.
